Wondering what to see and do in Teror, Gran Canaria? Teror is one of the prettiest and most historic towns on the island, and our restaurant is a couple of minutes' walk from everything: monuments, the Sunday market, squares, museums and hiking trails. Here is our guide to the Villa:
⛪ Basilica of Nuestra Señora del Pino — the heart of Teror and of the whole island: home of Gran Canaria's patron saint, in an 18th-century church overlooking Plaza del Pino. Tradition says the Virgin appeared here in 1481 on top of a pine tree. Step inside to see the camarín and the altarpiece.
🏘️ Calle Real de la Plaza and the old town — the town's famous pedestrian street, lined with manor houses and the most photographed wooden Canarian balconies on the island, plus shops, bakeries and bars. Wander the side streets too: every corner is a postcard.
🛍️ Teror Sunday market — every Sunday morning (approx. 9:00–14:00) around the Basilica. With over 200 years of history it is a must: Teror chorizo, pan de puño bread, island cheeses, convent sweets, flowers and crafts. Our tip: come early, have breakfast with us and browse the stalls at ease.
🌿 Historic squares — Plaza Teresa de Bolívar (dedicated to Simón Bolívar's wife, daughter of a Teror family, and designed by Néstor Álamo) and the Alameda Pío XII, in front of the Episcopal Palace, now a cultural centre. Perfect for a quiet shaded stroll.
🏛️ Casa Museo de los Patronos de la Virgen — next to the Basilica, a Canarian manor house with centuries of the Manrique de Lara family's history: period furniture, tapestries, porcelain and beautiful courtyards.
🌳 Finca de Osorio — a few minutes away, Gran Canaria's "nature classroom": century-old chestnut trees, laurel forest and the greenest views in the north. To visit the inner estate it is best to request authorisation from the Cabildo (tel. +34 928 630 090).
🥾 Hiking from Teror — several waymarked routes start or end right in the village: the Teror ravine & Finca de Osorio circular (moderate, ideal for a morning), the climb to Pico de Osorio (968 m, spectacular views for trained legs) and the historic Camino de la Virgen, the pilgrims' route linking Las Palmas with the Basilica. Perfect for working up an appetite.
🎉 Fiesta del Pino — come in early September and you'll see the island's biggest festival: on 8 September thousands of pilgrims walk to Teror overnight from all over Gran Canaria. Romería, offerings, music and a unique atmosphere (and a packed town — bring patience).
💧 Teror water and 🌭 Teror chorizo — the town's two signature tastes: mineral water bottled right here and the famous soft, spreadable chorizo. You'll find both on our menu.
